By setting academic goals with your children you enhance the communication process. You can start by discussing their personal and academic aspirations to allow your child to learn how to think about long-term outcomes. While it’s meaningful to encourage your children to dream limitlessly, encourage them to set ‘SMART’ goals too (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time based).

To guide them on the right course towards their goals (and hold them accountable), it may be helpful to use calendars, planners, agendas, and/or to-do lists.
