Bloomz vs. NextRequest

Bloomz vs. NextRequest

The only all-in-one resident engagement platform for small cities.

NextRequest, now part of CivicPlus, is a dedicated public-records request tool with strong redaction features. Bloomz Public Records covers intake, a business-day due clock, staff assignment to a department and a private status lookup, inside the platform your city already uses for alerts and agendas.

The 30-second answer

Three things that matter most.

A records portal vs. records in the platform

NextRequest's published pages describe intake, workflows, deadline tracking and a requester portal. Bloomz Public Records offers an online intake form, a business-day clock, department assignment and status updates, without another portal to run.

Redaction is where the dedicated tool goes deeper

NextRequest lists batch redaction and risk detection. Bloomz Public Records does not redact documents; responses can carry attachments you prepared elsewhere. If redaction volume is your main problem, weigh that.

A status link, no account needed

A requester receives a private tracking token and email updates, and can look up status without calling the clerk.

Trust by Design

Every request on a clock.

A resident submits a request through an online form with no login. Bloomz starts a business-day due clock, the request lands with your default department for staff to assign, and an overdue check sweeps for overdue requests so nothing sits unnoticed.

Simplicity by Design

The clerk's queue lives next to the agendas.

The clerk who publishes agendas also works the records queue, from one panel and one login. Requesters follow their status by a private link, and public status never shows the requester's identity, internal notes, department or fee estimate.

Cost-Effective by Design

A module, not another contract.

If records software is one more line on a stack of single-purpose invoices, Bloomz Public Records sits in the same subscription as the other city modules, with no per-resident or per-message fees.

Honest assessment

When NextRequest may be the right fit.

If your city processes a high volume of records requests with heavy document review, especially for a police department, a dedicated tool with batch redaction is built for that and NextRequest lists it. If your clerk handles a moderate volume and the real pain is intake, deadlines and assigning requests, Bloomz Public Records gives you that inside the platform you already use for agendas and alerts.

Migration program

Switching to Bloomz.
Easier than you think.

We set up your departments and the intake form, and agree with your clerk how requests already in progress are carried over. Most clerks finish open requests in the old tool and take new ones in Bloomz.
